Year 5

Week commencing Monday 15th January 2018.

 

In Maths this week the children will continue to order fractions and convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions.  As is so often the case, times tables knowledge will be crucial in this fraction work and any games or additional practice of tables will be very helpful.

 

In English this week the children will continue work inspired by the legend of Beowulf.

 

Maths homework is based around comparing fractions.

 

English Homework for Mrs King and Mrs Hopkinson's group is designing a poster.  Mr Saint's group have a creative writing task with full instructions on the sheet.

Weekly Overview for week beginning Monday 8th January.

 

In Maths this week the children will begin to order and compare fractions.

 

In English this week the children will begin work inspired by the legend of Beowulf.

 

Maths homework is based on factors.

 

English Homework is to write a letter of thanks.

Weekly Overview for the week beginning Monday 18th December and the first two days back in the New Year.

 

In Maths this week is based on Christmas themed investigations. In the New Year the first two days back will be going over some topics addressed in the Multiplication and Division assessment.

 

In English this week the children will be performing poetry, again around the Christmas theme. In the New Year they will have two days of comprehension and grammar activities.

 

There is no Maths homework as there have been no formal Maths lessons during Christmas Cultural Week.

 

English Homework is a letter to children in Norway explaining what they have learned about their Christmas traditions.

 

The Year 5 team would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

There will be no formal Maths and English this week as we hare having Cultural Christmas Week where the children will study different aspects of a Norwegian Christmas.

 

Maths homework is mixed operation problems.

 

English Homework is homonyms.

Weekly Overview for week beginning Monday 13th November.

In Maths this week the children will be exploring the patterns in square, cube and prime numbers.

In English this week the children will be writing instructions inspired by Wallace and Gromit.

Maths homework is using the rules of divisibility.

English Homework is work on suffixes.

This week is Bullying Awareness Week and the children will be continuing their PSHCE work on this topic.

On Monday there is a Christmas surprise for the children. Oh yes there is!

Weekly Overview for week beginning Monday 6th November 2017.

In Maths this week the children will be exploring factors and multiples.

 

In English this week the children will be writing an autobiographical text.

 

Maths homework is extracting data from a table. Please note that Section C Question 2 has the names of the monsters the wrong way around. Sorry.

 

English Homework is based upon writing biographical information about a family member.

Weekly Overview for week beginning 30th October.

 

In Maths this week the children will be having a catch up on addition then interpreting data presented in tables.

 

In English this week the children will be reading biographies and writing their own examples.

 

There is no Maths or English homework over half-term. Children will need to continue to read regularly. Practicing times tables will become increasingly important as Maths moves into a series of weeks focussed upon multiplication and division.

In Maths this week the children will continue to extract data from, and construct line graphs.

 

In English this week the children will be writing stories inspired by the emotional ending to There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom.

 

Maths homework is interpreting graphs.

 

English Homework is based upon Bradley’s list in There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom.

 

Homework this week is due in on Friday. There is no homework over half term but we hope children will keep reading their books with you.

 

Mrs King and Mr Saint are looking forward to seeing you for Parent Consultations on Wednesday and Thursday.

In English this week children will continue to explore character feelings from There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom.

 

Maths homework is based upon methods of addition and subtraction.

 

English Homework is letter writing.

 

For Weeks 6 & 7 Year 5 will be spending Wednesday or Thursday afternoons doing an Anti-bullying Workshop. As there will be no Maths or English lessons on Thursday of Week 6 the final homework of the half-term will be sent out on Friday 12th October. It will be due in before the end of half-term. We hope prior notice will allow you to alter any routines.

From this week children will be working in their Maths and English groups.

 

In Maths this week children will be working with Roman numerals before moving on the number mastery activities.

 

In English this week children will beginning work inspired by Louis Sakur’s There’s a Boy in the Girls Bathroom.

 

Maths homework is based around rounding larger numbers.

 

English Homework is producing a five sentence story as a planning activity.
