Year 5

Week beginning Monday 17th June

 

In Maths the groups will be reflecting and rotating shapes.

 

In English both groups the children will be producing more detailed information texts.

 

English homework for both groups is a Food Diary.

 

Mrs King's Maths group will be doing homework on nets and Mr Saint's group will be sorting 3D shapes in a Venn diagram.

 

This week will also see the children beginning their new PSHCE/Science project that parents had the opportunity to attend the presentation covering this subject.

Week beginning Monday 12th June

 

In Maths the groups will be exploring the properties of shapes.

 

In English both groups beginning to look at producing information texts.

 

English homework for Mrs King's group is handwriting practice and Mr Saint's group have play scripts.

 

Both Maths groups have negative numbers for their homework.

Week beginning Monday 22nd May 2017

 

A definite "time" theme this week in Year 5

 

In Maths the groups will be calculating different aspects of time including timetables and calendars.

 

In English both groups will be writing scripts inspired by a certain television Timelord.

 

English homework for Mrs King's group is modal verbs and for Mr Saint's it is parenthesis.

 

Mr Saint’s Maths group have inverse operations in multiplication and division while Mrs King's group have work on angles.

 

It is also Ancient Cultures week in KS2 with Year 5 studying the Ancient Shang of China (Terracotta Army)

 

We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 2th May at one of the two meetings about the Danbury Outdoors trip and S&RE.

Week beginning Monday 15th May 2017

 

In Maths the groups will be investigating volume and exploring Imperial units of measure.

 

In English the groups will compare different versions of Lemony Snickett.

 

English homework for both groups is model verbs.

 

Mr Saint’s Maths group have homework is angles.

Week beginning Monday 8th May 2017

 

In Maths the groups will be investigating the properties of triangles along with measuring and calculating angles.

 

In English the groups will continue tasks based upon the Lemony Snicket text.

 

English homework for both groups diary writing.

 

Mr Saint’s Maths group have homework linking percentages with decimals and fractions while Mrs King’s group have work finding percentages of money.

 

Some children in Mr Saint's group are planning on doing some extra practice multiplying and dividing by 1000 using place value.

Week Beginning Tuesday 2nd May

In Maths the groups will continue finding fractions and percentages of amounts before moving onto mass and capacity.

 

In English the groups will continue tasks based upon the Lemony Snicket text.

 

English homework for both groups diary writing.

 

Maths for both groups is working with percentages.

 

Mrs King and her whole class look forward to seeing everybody on Friday5th May for their class assembly.

Week Beginning Monday 24th April 2017

In Maths the groups will be finding fractions and percentages of amounts.  Mr Saint's group will also be using protractor skills.

 

In English the groups will continue tasks based upon the Lemony Snicket text.

 

English homework for both groups is speech punctuation.

 

Maths for both groups is working with fractions.

 

Mr Saint and his whole class look forward to seeing everybody on Friday 29th for their class assembly.

The week starting Monday 27th March will be a busy one in Year 5.

 

In Maths the groups will be translating and describing shapes upon an axis.

 

In English the groups will be writing explanation texts.

 

English homework for Mr Saint's group is adverbs while Mrs King's class have speech punctuation.

 

Maths for both groups is rounding decimals.

 

On Wednesday both classes will have a road safety workshop.  Emails have been sent to you advising how to give permission for the short walk that will take place as part of this workshop.

 

On Friday chaos will ensue with Art Day - don't forget you junk for modeling!

 

From Monday20th March the children in Year 5 will have the following focus in Maths and English.

English – Extending the work on recount writing to include greater use of description and punctuation.

Maths – decimals.

 

Maths Homework for both groups is Roman Numerals to 100.

English Homework Mr Saint’s Group have conjunctions and Mrs King/Mrs Hopkinson’s Group have a recount of The Three Little Pigs.

 

Do not forget the children are visiting the Nature Reserve on Monday.

From Monday 27th February the children in Year 5 will have the following focus in Maths and English.

English – Continuing story writing based upon the narrative poem The Highwayman.

Maths – extending last week's work on measure to perimeter and area.

Maths Homework for both groups is practical measuring.

English Homework for both groups is learning parts of The Highwayman poem.

Sorry for any delay in adding this weeks outline.

Welcome to Year 5!

From Monday 27th February the children in Year 5 will have the following focus in Maths and English.

English – Continuing story writing based upon the narrative poem The Highwayman.

Maths – Applying the skills developed last week when multiplying and divided by 10s, 100s and 1000s by applying them to units of measure.

Maths Homework for Mr Saint's Group is factors and primes.  For Mrs Kings & Mrs Hopkinson group are finding fractions of amounts.

Mr Saint's English group have a wanted poster for a terrible highwayman or women, while Mrs Kings & Mrs Hopkinson groups have handwriting practice for increased speed and fluency. 

The children have been given spellings to be stuck in their homework books.

 

We look forward to seeing you all at parents consultations on Monday and Wednesday - bringing biscuits and cake is not essential.

Maths – Finding fractions of amounts and percentages.

Maths Homework for Mr Saint's Group is an investigation based upon finding fractions of amounts.  For Mrs Kings & Mrs Hopkinson group have word problems based upon fractions of amounts..

Both English Groups have homework based upon apostrophes.

The children have been given spellings to be stuck in their homework books.

English – Continuing with Legendary Stories based on Sir Gawain & The Loathly Lady.

Maths – Finding fractions of amounts.

Maths Homework for Mr Saint's Group is an investigation based upon cube numbers.  For Mrs Kings & Mrs Hopkinson there is an activity based upon order of operations.

Mr Saint’s English Group have a description of a not so Loathly Lady.  Mrs Kings & Mrs Hopkinson have work based upon their writing from the previous week.

The children have been given spellings to be stuck in their homework books.

Spring Term Outline

From Monday 23rdJanuary the children in Year 5 will have the following focus in Maths and English.

English – Legendary Stories based on Sir Gawain & The Loathly Lady.

Maths – Square and cube numbers, order of operation.

Maths Homework for both groups is multiples to support long division.

Mr Saint’s English Group have descriptive sentences based upon Beowulf for their homework.  Mrs Kings & Mrs Hopkinson have a spelling activity.

The children have been given spellings to be stuck in their homework books.
